Apple May Lower iPad Prices, Add Camera Module

Apple executives could be "nimble" on pricing for the iPad tablet PC, according to a Credit Suisse analyst, should the device fail to achieve sufficient marketplace traction following its release in two months. Prices for the iPad currently range from $499 to $829, depending on options such as Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. In addition, a job posting on the Apple corporate site adds fuel to rumors that Apple could be planning to integrate a camera module of some sort into the iPad. - Apple may be quot;nimble quot; on its price point for
the upcoming iPad tablet PC, according to Credit Suisse analyst Bill Shope, if
customers refuse to flock to the device during its initial rollout within the

Android Market now offers e-book purchases

There were some interesting discoveries noted when the Android Market website went live recently. Specific URLs behaved differently than the categories listed on the site -- they ended with books, music, and movies. Now, TechCrunch reports that the Books subsection is active. Right now, however, the Books tab will only appear for users who access the it via the Market App on an Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet.

Books are categorized, and top paid, top free, and recently added titles are also on display. Pick a title you want to download, and it's added to your Google Books account. You don't need to own a tablet to make a purchase, so we expect the Books tab to appear soon on non-Honeycomb devices and in the Web Market as well. Complete a purchase, and it's instantly available via the Google Books app.

Books could, of course, already be purchased from http://books.google.com/ebooks, but the Android Market will provide a good deal of additional exposure and plenty of new customers.

Apple bought mobile ad network Quattro Wireless. Quattro confirmed the purchase, which AllThingsDigital said was worth $275 million. Xeno Defense is a fantastic tower defense Time Waster

117,944 - that's my final score in Xeno Defense. I think this is the first Time Waster I found addictive enough to actually play all the way to the end. It is a casual game - you don't have to finish it to enjoy it. But it was easy enough, and definitely addictive enough, for me to just finish. It took me about half an hour, I think.

There's a story line, but it's not very important. The gist of it is that you're a scientist stranded in an outpost, and there's an alien invasion. Your encampment is all the way to the right side of the screen, with swarms of aliens coming in from the left and trying to invade. Your job is to shoot them and defend your turf.

As the game evolves, you gain experience points. At the end of each level you go to the store and choose what you want to spend your points on: new buildings, new weapons, upgrade existing weapons, or invest in repairing your base.

The final goal is to build a weapon that's advanced enough to use against the alien mothership. This is done by building enough research buildings - but you must balance the buildings you buy with your weapons upgrades, because each swarm of aliens is stronger than the last.
